PowerPoint slides turned into images? Rebuild one slide at a time as text you can edit.

If you click a slide and the whole thing selects as one picture, the text is pixels, not text. Save that slide as a PNG or JPG (WebP also works), upload it, and get a PowerPoint slide with real text boxes and shapes. Preview it free first.

A slide saved as a picture, rebuilt as slide objects.

We built a simple one-slide PowerPoint file, rendered it to a picture (the same situation as a deck saved as pictures), and converted that picture. The left side is the flat image; the right side is the final PowerPoint file, with outlines marking native text boxes and shapes.

How to make a slide that is only a picture editable again

Unraster is not affiliated with Microsoft. Menu names follow Microsoft’s support page “Save a slide as an image or as a separate presentation file” and can differ between PowerPoint versions.

  1. Confirm the slide is one picture

Click the text. If the whole slide highlights as a single object, or the text cannot be selected at all, the slide is an image. This can happen when a deck was exported as pictures, or built from screenshots.

  2. Save one slide as an image

In PowerPoint for Windows, select the slide, choose File > Save As, pick PNG or JPEG as the file type, then Just This One. On Mac, use File > Export, choose PNG or JPEG and Save Current Slide Only. If the deck came as a PDF, save or screenshot one page at a time as an image; Unraster does not accept PDF files.

  3. Upload and check the free previews

Upload a PNG, JPG or WebP up to 20 MB, one image per slide. The Basic SVG preview is traced in your browser and never uploaded. Log in to also preview the PowerPoint free, with the editable text and shapes outlined.

  4. Download, proofread, edit

Each account gets one free PowerPoint preview. Downloading that first file is a one-time $2.99 or 2 credits, and every later PowerPoint is 2 credits, with no subscription needed. Only a delivered file is charged. Read every text box against the original, then edit.

Free to start. Pay only for what you keep.

Advanced SVG uses 1 credit and PowerPoint 2, charged only when you receive the file. Your first PowerPoint preview is free.

Why is every slide in my PowerPoint a picture?

The file was probably made by exporting each slide as an image and placing it on a blank slide, or by pasting screenshots. The words are then pixels, so PowerPoint has no text to select. The file still opens normally; there is just nothing underneath to edit.

Can I convert the whole deck at once?

No. Unraster takes one image per slide and does not do batches or PDF files. Save each slide as its own PNG, JPG or WebP and convert the slides you need to change. For a long deck, only convert the slides you actually have to edit.

I only have a PDF where each page is an image. What now?

Unraster does not accept PDFs. Open the PDF, export or screenshot the page you need as a PNG, JPG or WebP, and upload that. Sharp, large pages give the best text; a blurry capture will misread letters.

Will it match the original slide exactly?

No, and it does not claim to. In this example all the text became editable, but fonts were replaced by a similar sans-serif and soft shadows became thin grey edges. Proofread every text box and compare the slide to the original before you share it.

Is there a faster way inside PowerPoint?

If you still have the original file that the slide was exported from, change the text there and export again; that is usually cleaner. Unraster is for when only the picture version is left and you want the whole slide back as text boxes and shapes.

What does it cost?

The Basic SVG preview is free and runs in your browser. Each account gets one free PowerPoint preview. Downloading that first file is a one-time $2.99 or 2 credits, and every later PowerPoint is 2 credits. No subscription needed. Failed conversions are not charged.
